BIRTH DOULA SERVICES
Birth is a threshold point just like death, a place where the world known to human senses meets a mystery beyond our understanding.
What is a doula?
In the last decade, the word “doula” refers to an experienced or trained professional who provides physical comfort, emotional support and information to the mother and her partner before, during and following the birth.
This support can take on many forms and is different for each couple and adapted to their needs. It can help a partner feel more confident in supporting the mother through encouragement and reassurance. The support a doula provides is non-clinical and does not replace the care of your doctor, midwife, or nurses.
Doulas do not make decisions for you, or speak for you. This is your body, your birth and your baby. A doula supports you by providing information you may ask for about your choices, but it’s always you who decides what’s best for you.

How it works:
We will first meet in person or on Skype to discuss your needs and get to feel if we are a good match.
- I can meet your midwife once or tour a hospital or birth center of your choice.
- We will meet prenatally to clarify your wishes in a birth plan, process your fears and expectations, prepare you and your partner for the birth of your baby, whether you choose to birth at home, at a birthing center or in the hospital, with or without pain medication.
- We can practice breathing and relaxation exercises, comfort measures for pregnancy, labour & birth, and Spinning Babies techniques to encourage an optimal fetal position and facilitate an easier, shorter and more gentle birth.
- I offer unlimited phone call and email support from the moment you hire me. I will be on call 24h/7 from week 37 through week 42. I will be present at your labour within 1.5 hours. In pre-labour we will be in touch and I will come if necessary. I will be by your side the entire active phase of your labour and the birth of your baby.
- I will visit you within a week after the birth of your baby to process your birth and see how you are doing. I will answer any questions you may have.
